The world has been overrun by supervillains and the only thing that stands between humanity and destruction is an alien reporter-turned-supervillain hunter--Jeffry Lewis Floyd. The last thing in the galaxy Floyd wants is to be a hero, but even the villains seem intent on making him into one.

A human torch boasts that he will cause the Second Great Fire of London. Every day he turns more of the city into smouldering ruins, and nothing can be done to stop him. Will a hero be found in time, or will London be consumed by fire and Ashes?

The more of these books I read the less and less impressed I was with the main character and hero. Sadly, he just doesn't come across as very heroic.

I guess now that I think about it he reminds me a bit of The Doctor from Doctor Who, but only even less focused. His sarcastic and often almost random comments and actions kept me from getting into the story. Sad, because I actually like Doctor Who.

If you like the badguy of the month type stories, this will probably prove fun and interesting. Katie is a good writer, but here the lack of a compelling character dragged down the story.

Fire and Ashes Supervillain of the Day eBook Katie Lynn Daniels Reviews

This second installment of Supervillain of the Day finds Floyd in conflict with a vicious supervillain of the fiery type whose primary goal seems to be to put Floyd under for good.

Our nanotech-enhanced hero is in actual danger this time, and the tension that causes carries the story very well. We’re starting to learn a little more about our characters and their motivations.

Overall well-written and tightly paced. I found three typos in the whole thing, which is pretty good. (these will likely be fixed when the new edition comes out)
Yes, I got to read this book before it was officially published. Such are the special privileges of the interior formatter. Be jealous.

After reading this, I almost wish I had given the first book in the series four stars just so I could give the second book a higher rating. It is that phenomenal. The premise of this book is darker, more sober, and in some ways more physiological, and that makes it riveting and emotional. This book delves into Floyd's character and his place in Earth's society--meanwhile speculating about the nature of courage and true heroism. The result is that it's not only an engaging treat for fans (and, dare I say it, fangirls) but also a thought-provoking read.

As with the first one, this book is clean. There's some violence and sobering references to deaths caused by the villain, but nothing grossly graphic. There's a brief bout of drunkeness and some references to language, but no explicit or sexual content. A great, quick, fun read for teens. Highly recommended.
I read this book in a couple hours tops and just like with the first book, I very much enjoyed the adventure. I'm still putting my rating at 4 stars, as I think this series will be better all in one volume, but that's no reason not to read it. I'm just slightly bothered that every time it gets going, the book ends and I have to wait for the next installment. Hurry up with that next one!
If ever I've seen a story line with a protagonist that isn't perfect, it's Fire & Ashes. Floyd is heroic and horrifically blunt all at the same time. I might not love some of the actions Floyd takes, but boy do I love that contrast! You want to claim to the rooftops that Floyd is the best and you wish you knew more people like him one minute, and then the next he does something unimaginably cold and you realize just how alien he is.
Human torches that burn unquenchable flames isn't usually in my reading M.O. There are a lot of things I wouldn't expect to like. And yet it's all so utterly brilliant and awesome, I can't help it. I'm hooked on this series, and as long as Katie keeps writing them I'll be reading them.
I wasn't expecting the ending to be as simple as it was, but it was satisfying so I won't count it against the book. The final scene between Floyd and the fire chief brought a real emotional and moral close.

Part of me wanted to rate this only 4 stars, because I happen to know the author and I didn't want to seem like a walking advertizement. However, in my own personal ranking system I view 4 stars as a book that was fantastic but I probably wouldn't reread it more than once in my life. I can see reading this many times in the future.
