A missionary crosses time and space to save humanity.
Having just received the worst news possible, questioning his faith, Jack Traquair has a spiritual visitation. At his cottage pondering life's big questions under the stars, he is hoisted into incandescent light. Encountering an otherworldly apparition who offers answers, Jack is unsure whether Turen is the answer to his prayers, a hallucination, or worse.
Turen whisks Jack away on a Dickensian journey through humanity's defining moments in search of enlightenment. But the Visitor has a hidden agenda. He knows that sentience born of stardust does not long survive the cosmos or itself; his species is the only one to endure. Turen does not want to watch another promising species fail, but since contact is strictly forbidden, he seeks to judge not only our worthiness, but our readiness before defying his Community.
If Jack can pass the test, not only will he find the answers he seeks but Turen will risk all to teach humanity how to surmount the Nine Threats to Survival, answer the Six Questions of Significance, transcend the Three Awakenings of Sentience, and set foot on the One Path to Salvation.
PROPHET Journey from Stardust edition by Graeme Woodley Religion Spirituality eBooks
The story begins as protagonist and narrator Jack arrives at his family's cabin in the wilderness. Things are not going well for him; his marriage is falling apart and he is dying from cancer. He desperately seeks answers regarding the meaning of life--in other words, what is the point of it all? Suddenly, he spots a light shining through the window of the cabin, and an angelic figure appears. This entity takes the form of a young man and explains that he is a visitor from another world and he calls himself Turen. According to Turen, mankind is approaching an apocalypse from which we may not survive. He offers to help prevent this, but first he must ascertain whether or not humanity is worthy of salvation. He has decided to use Jack to find out, and together they journey through the history of Earth, religion and philosophy. Through it all, Jack must face some harsh truths concerning his belief in God. Can he accept what Turen has to show him? This is one of the most powerful narratives I have ever read. Woodley utilizes symbolism and deep insights to bring the reader to profound revelations. Be warned, though: This story asks you tough questions. What do you believe? What should you believe? Is God really what we have always thought Him to be? If, however, you can face these questions, you owe it to yourself to give this book a read. I, too, had the same questions as the narrator, and am now more comfortable with them. As Turen puts it, I have internalized my beliefs. The book does not seek to disprove the existence of God, but rather to question our understanding of any possible Creator.
Proph-et is not for everyone, though. Jack and Turen's lengthy philosophical and metaphysical discussions may be too much for some people. Also, the book occasionally suffers from not enough editing which keeps it from a full five stars. Nevertheless, students of philosophy--and anyone struggling with their faith--absolutely must read Proph-et: Journey from Stardust.

PROPHET Journey from Stardust edition by Graeme Woodley Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This is an amazing and well written book that will make readers examine their own belief systems. Jack Traquair is dying. He retreats to the wilderness to find himself and God, and has a life-altering encounter with Turen, a member of the only sentient species that has survived the pitfalls of existence in the universe. Jack and Turen discuss everything from the origins of religion and spirituality through its place in history and what both philosophers and scientists have had to say about it. Sentience also comes with responsibility for its actions. This book has profound messages for us all, and I am still thinking about them.
Amazing treatise - an expertly written and beautiful work. Thrilling imagery and a shocker in terms of its depth and relevance. I felt I had actually met an alien (Turen) from the future who had all the answers but wanted me to find them myself without being spoon fed. No matter what your thoughts on the universe, faith, ethics, morality, you will find yourself in this work of art.
Prophet is about Man's search for his place in the physical and spiritual world. Physical truth--Science--and spiritual truth--Philosophy or Religion-- are one. We must study them as a whole, as they are, open eyed and open minded. Never will we know ALL; always we must seek to know better. Over the next hill, we'll find new knowledge and understanding, beyond that hill are many more. It is our journey of discovery. Each individual makes that journey, for better or worse. Each individual is an integral part of the world!
Prophet is about Man's responsibility for his place in the physical and spiritual world. Knowledge and understanding are necessary, but as we learn and understand, we must relate, actively, responsibly. We--both corporately and individually--are responsible for what we do (and don't do) to our world, especially to our fellow man. The responsibility cannot be delegated. Each individual bears responsibility for all!
God's greatest work that we can perceive is the world; where else would God expect us to look when we seek revelation of truth? We are, despite our thrashing about to make it otherwise, inextricably part of that world. How we treat the physical world and our fellow man does matter. Our responsibility lies here, in this world!
Read this book, thoughtfully, critically. But be prepared to take responsibility for the insights you gain. You'll choose a different path than Jack's. But, yours, as you perceive it, is the one you must follow.
By the time you finish this book, you will be eager for the next in this series. There's always another hill to climb.
